CS Kipchumba Murkomen During International Identity Day in Homabay

Dr Belio Kipsang, Ps Immigration & Citizen Services, led the State Department in celebrating World identity day in Homabay County.The celebrations highlighted the Government’s effort to ensure that every Kenyan regardless of age, location, or background has access to national identity documentation.
The event held under the global theme “ My Identity, My Umbrella “ was graced by the CS Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, alongside PS Interior, Dr Raymond Omollo, senior government officials, among many national and local leaders who accompanied the CS in marking this important day that highlights the right to identity for every citizen.
In his keynote address, CS Murkomen reaffirmed the Government’s commitment in ensuring no Kenyan is left behind in acquiring a legal identification.
“An ID is an Umbrella under which citizens access government services. It is more than a card. With an ID, you safeguard your rights and exercise your civic duties. By removing the vetting processes and scrapping fees for first time applicants, we are ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind,” the CS said.
Moreover, PS- Dr. Belio Kipsang highlighted how the Government has migrated to e-notifications at hospital level, ensuring that every birth is digitally recorded. “This innovation is part of the Ministry’s commitment to inclusivity, making sure no one is left behind, " said PS Belio.
He further emphasized that national identity cards are more than just documents, they are the key that unlocks opportunities in elections, social protection programs, affordable housing, and universal healthcare under SHA.
Ps. Dr Raymond Omollo, commended the leadership of Homabay County in fostering development and improving the lives of their people. He urged the citizens who do not have an identification document to seize the opportunity and acquire IDS not only as a legal right but also as a civic responsibility.
Additionally, the government acknowledged challenges faced in Homabay, a border county neighboring Lake Victoria, where many elderly citizens some up to 70 years remain unregistered. Currently, only six registration centers serve the county’s eight constituencies. To bridge this gap, the CS announced the rollout of “Usajili Mashinani”, a grassroots registration program set to begin in Turkana next week before scaling to other counties.
Local leaders including Homabay Town MP Peter Opondo Kaluma and Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino urged citizens to take registration seriously, reminding them that without IDs, they cannot access essential government services or participate in elections.Here is CS Kipchumba Murkomen's speech during the International Identity Day in Homabay.
