Government Condemns Ol Kalou Destruction – PS Dr. Belio Kipsangs

The Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services, Dr. Belio R. Kipsang, has condemned in the strongest terms the destruction of vital government facilities in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, following violent demonstrations that erupted on Tuesday, June 25.

Dr. Kipsang, who toured the affected sites on Thursday, was accompanied by Dr. Christopher Wanjau, Secretary of the National Registration Bureau (NRB). The delegation assessed the extent of the damage to critical government infrastructure, including the Deputy County Commissioner’s (DC) office and the National Registration Bureau (NRB).

The PS confirmed that the unrest led to the destruction of over 1,000 national identity cards, two live capture biometric kits, and personal property belonging to civil servants. Offices housing vital records and national identity infrastructure were severely damaged, resulting in major service disruptions.

"Attacking the NRB office is attacking the soul of a nation," Dr. Kipsang remarked. "These facilities anchor the identity, rights, and inclusion of our citizens. Their destruction undermines the ability of government to serve and protect its people."

Dr. Kipsang assured the public that emergency mobile registration facility will be deployed in Nyandarua County to help affected individuals replace lost IDs. He urged residents to follow due legal process for reissuance to ensure proper validation and protect the integrity of the identity ecosystem.

Importantly, the PS emphasized the government’s commitment to data protection and the security of personal information. “While physical infrastructure has been damaged, the State Department has put in place safeguards to ensure that citizen data is protected and recoverable. ,” he said.

Dr. Kipsang reiterated that while the government respects the constitutional right to peaceful protest, the destruction of public property undermines national progress and weakens institutional trust. He appealed to the youth, particularly the Gen Z generation, to channel their energy into structured and peaceful channels.
